In keeping with its mandate to promote the Philippines’ rich culture in Norway, the Philippine Embassy in Oslo, headed by Amb. Bayani S. Mercado, formally donated more than 30 Filipiñana books yesterday, 28 June, to the Oslo Kommune Deichmanske Bibliotek (Olso Public Library). Said collection was officially received by Ms. Liv Sæteren, Chief Librarian of the Oslo Public Library.
The collection of books includes Dr. Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. Books on Philippine history and foreign policy are also included. But aside from these serious tomes, the collection also includes coffee table books about the Philippine fiesta, food, tourism destinations such as Cebu, and a biography of internationally acclaimed Filipino boxer, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, among many others.
Further collaboration between the Embassy and the Oslo Public Library is in the works to help promote the Philippines’ rich culture and heritage by way of its books, movies, and music to Filipinos, Norwegians, and other nationalities in the country.
The Filipino Community in Norway is invited to view/read the Filipiñana collection at the Oslo Public Library, which is located at Arne Garborgs plass 4, N-0179 Oslo and is open to the public, Mondays to Fridays from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
