If you want to write a piece about the Philippines (either the country, tourism, diplomatic relations or other announcements), there is a lot of information about the history, etymology, geography, economy and tourist information on this site. In case you want to write an article and have specific questions that are not available on this site, you can address your question in English and contact us via our contact form. We will answer these e-mails usually within 48 hours. Make sure you include the name and type of the medium you are writing for, the target audience and the language you will be writing in. By adding this information, we can give you a more appropriate answer, and we might also have a contact near you who can help you out on a face-to-face basis.

Last Call for OAV registration for the May 2010 Elections

The Embassy wishes to remind all Filipinos, 18 years and above, who would like to exercise their right to vote during the May 2010 national elections to take the opportunity to register for the Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) that is being conducted by the Embassy until 31 August 2009 during office hours from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. (during summer). The embassy also welcomes would-be OAV registrants on weekends by appointment.

All interested OAV applicants are requested to bring two (2) passport-size photos and their valid Philippine passports for the OAV registration.

SPIRE leaders meet Ambassador Buensuceso

Ms. Johanne Sæther Houge, Ms. Elisabeth Helseth, and Mr. Guri Storaas, Norwegian students and leaders of SPIRE, a Norwegian based NGO with international affiliations, paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Elizabeth P. Buensuceso on 20 April 2009 to discuss climate change and the Philippine Government’s policies and plans of action to address the issue.

SPIRE is a member-based youth organization affiliated with the Norwegian Development Fund.

Ambassador Buensuceso pays courtesy call to State Secretary Raymund Johansen

The Ambassador met with State Secretary Raymund Johansen on 5 March 2009. The Ambassador proposed a possible RP-Norway cooperation scheme on the establishment of free or affordable Norwegian language training courses in the Philippines which the State Secretary warmly welcomed.

Last 27 February 2009, Ambassador Buensuceso paid a courtesy call to Minister of Environment and International Development Erik Solheim. She thanked the Minister for Norway’s support for the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) that was held in Manila last October and reiterated the Philippine Government’s commitment to the peace process with the NDF. In response, Minister Solheim pledged Norway’s continued support to the process.

The Ambassador was accompanied by Minister Evelyn D. Austria-Garcia and Third Secretary Lenna Eilleen de Dios.

Norway honors Filipino farmer on the first celebration of the Global Seed Vault

A Filipino farmer was honored during the first year celebration of the Svalvard Global Seed Vault on February 26, 2009.

Norway Minister of Agriculture and Food Lard Peder Brekk praised Tay Gipo, a farmer who, despite having only four years of formal education, discovered a rice variety that proved to be high-yielding and pest resistant, the sample of which is among the thousands of seeds kept at the global seed vault.

Participants in the Global Policy Advisory Council on Health Workers Migration Meeting that was held in Oslo on February 3-4, 2009 expressed their admiration for the Philippine migration scheme hailing it as a model worth emulating by both receiving and sending countries of the world.

Ambassador Buensuceso pays courtesy call to Minister Jonas Gahr Støre

On 3 February 2009, Ambassador Buensuceso paid a courtesy call on and sought Norwegian investments in several sectors with focus on renewable energy and IT-based outsourcing. Minister Støre underscored decades-old maritime relations and welcomed possible cooperation in energy security. Talks on more investments, promotion of peace and the possibility of setting up a Norwegian language school in the Philippines dominated the discussions.

The Ambassador was accompanied by Minister Evelyn D. Austria-Garcia and Third Secretary Lenna Eilleen de Dios.

Denmark has new Philippine Honorary Consul

Mr. Poul Krogh was sworn in as Philippine Honorary Consul in Denmark on 2 February 2009. Mr. Krogh took his oath before Philippine Ambassador Elizabeth P. Buensuceso at the Embassy Chancery.
A retired businessman, Mr. Krogh has pledged to promote and protect the interest of the Philippines and its nationals in Denmark.

Mr.Krogh is founder of DEKO LOFT & VÆG A/S, a company in the construction business since 1967. Mr. Krogh has been Honorary Consul for Tunisia since 2003.

The Philippine Honorary Consul's Office in Denmark will start its operations on 1 April 2009.

RP Proves to be a Popular Vacation Destination For Norwegians at the Reiseliv 2009 Tourism Fair in Norway

A record number of Norwegians flocked the Philippine booth at the Reiseliv 2009 (Travel Fair) held in Lillestrøm, Norway from 8 to 11 January 2009. During the four-day event, the Philippine booth entertained an estimated 1,000 interested and would-be tourists ranging from families, honeymoon-ing couples, businessmen, sailors, and travel enthusiasts and members of the media.

Favorite destinations were Boracay, Palawan, Cebu and Bohol; although a number of visitors looking for great back-packing destinations also expressed interest in the Cordillera and the Ilocos regions.

New RP envoy to Norway presents credentials to HRH King Harald V

The new Philippine Ambassador to Norway, Elizabeth P. Buensuceso, has presented her credentials to Norwegian King Harald V.

Amb. Buensuceso also conveyed to the King the felicitations and wishes for good health, peace and happiness for the New Year from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

King Harald, in turn, requested Amb. Buensuceso to extend to Mrs. Arroyo his warm greetings and wished the Philippines success and prosperity.
